I was reflecting on how it’s funny that while sweat is kind of prole, it has a fairly positive reputation for a bodily excretion, while nobody likes piss even though it’s chemically almost identical

and at first I was thinking that oh, it’s because piss comes out of your naughty bits, but I don’t think that’s it because spit has nearly as bad a reputation

and then I was thinking, maybe it’s the distinction between a concentrated vs. diffuse discharge? but greasy skin has a much worse reputation than sweat even though it’s not as smelly or full of weird chemical excretions, so I don’t think it’s that either

so I decided that the real distinction is that sweat is associated with being productive, and because it’s involuntary the social taboo for “body stuff” is dampened. so, here’s a theory: if sweating were something you stored up and released voluntarily, whereas you just started pissing everywhere when you were working hard on a hot day, the connotations would be switched
